You’ll need a valid full driver’s licence (NZ or overseas), a credit or debit card for the bond/security deposit, and your passport or NZ-issued photo ID if your licence is not in English (an official translation or International Driving Permit is also required).

Only additional drivers listed on the rental agreement may drive. Each additional driver must meet the same licence requirements and be present at pick-up. A small daily fee applies per extra driver.

Free cancellation is available up to 48 hours before your scheduled pick-up time. Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a fee equal to one day’s rental. No-shows or same-day cancellations are non-refundable.

We offer comprehensive insurance options at checkout, including a standard package with an excess and a Zero Excess option for full peace of mind. Third-party travel insurance may be accepted, but you’ll need to provide written proof of coverage. Uninsured drivers will be liable for all damage costs.

Call our 24/7 roadside support line immediately (number is on your rental agreement and on a sticker inside the glovebox). For accidents, first ensure everyone is safe, then contact police if needed, take photos of the scene, and call us before authorising any repairs.

Most rentals include unlimited kilometres within the North and South Islands (excluding travel to Stewart Island or via unsealed ferry routes). A small number of specialty vehicles (e.g., large 4WDs) may have a daily cap – please check your booking confirmation.

Yes, but you must declare this at pick-up. We’ll provide a ferry authorisation (no extra fee). You are responsible for the ferry ticket and any damage that occurs on board or on the Cook Strait crossing. The vehicle cannot be left unattended on the ferry for more than the crossing duration.

You may not drive on unsealed roads (except designated access roads to DOC campsites less than 5 km long), beach driving is prohibited, and you cannot take the vehicle onto racetracks or 4WD adventure parks. Alpine chains are provided free of charge during winter months (June–September) if you’re travelling through central South Island passes.

Returns are accepted during our operating hours (8 AM – 6 PM daily). A grace period of 29 minutes is allowed. After that, a late fee of $50 plus the daily rental rate applies for every hour or part thereof. After 2 hours late, an additional full day’s rental will be charged.

Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as pick-up (usually full-to-full). If not, we will refuel at $4.50/L plus a $15 service fee. A standard exterior wash is not required, but excessive mud, sand, or animal odours inside will incur a $75 cleaning fee.
